Toronto Public Library Author Talks

Program Room

Lorna presents her book, The Don: The Story of Toronto’s Infamous Jail, which investigates the origins and evolution of the Don Jail in Toronto from its inception in the mid-1800s to the present day. Hear stories about some of the colourful personalities who were involved in its history.

This presentation, Both Sides of the Bars, goes into various aspects of the jail’s history, but the emphasis is rather on the people involved-including subjects like governors throughout the whole period, several mayors, the murder of George Brown, inmates, a love story in the shadow of the gallows, and the Polka Dot Gang.
